Family Hike WHT -Ceres Hill Rd
This family hike started with lots of whining and grumpiness, but turned to a giggle-fest at about halfway. Hubby was telling the kids silly stories about himself and grandpa, and the kids were telling him jokes and that he should be on Comedy Central. This section of the WHT taking off heading east from Ceres HIll Rd intersection has a gentle grade and is nice compact gravel - looks very mtn bikable. The kids collected lots of rocks in their pockets that I’m still finding around the house and also found two rusted railroad spikes that we took home to add to our cool one with rock formed around the middle that we found on the beach in Seward. Great family hike!

Adna WHT run
This section of the WHT is very flat grade, but has some softer lumps of gravel and a LOOOOOOOONG trestle crossing that I would NOT want to do on a mtn bike. Dog took it in stride and would have run over it. I was a little freaked out by the gaps (4″??) and some of the half-rotten ties. Definitely had to keep my eyes on where I was stepping and I noticed that I was holding my body pretty tight - when we would hit the sections where there were 3 ties pushed together, I could feel my body relax for those 2 steps before it was back to the careful walking over the gaps again. After the trestle, the trail gets a little prettier, with some sheep, horse and cow pastures, tidy farms, and finally a fir forest just before the next road. I’ll have to check a map and see if I can figure out what road it crosses there. I thought it was Ceres Hill Rd (Adna/Bunker Creek Rd side of hill), but when we drove up looking for it a few days later, it wasn’t.

pushups, dips, plank, side plank
No time for lifting lately and this sinus infection is kicking my butt. Very low energy the last couple days and even a short workout seems draining. Hit the floor of the grange hall for some long-overdue strength work while my daughter was in ballet class. pushups 10×3, dips 10×3, plank to side plank 10 each side, ended with down dog and arm stretches. My arms were tired from my swim earlier, even though it was only 20 min and I was swimming slooooowwly. I hate it when my bod feels drained instead of stronger after a workout -muscle fatigue and wanting a nap after a long run or swim is one thing, but this just feels bleh.

Laps before OT pool session
Thought i was only gonna have 10 min to lap swim due to being slow getting to the pool, but in this case it was good that my client was running late. I could really feel that I haven’t been swimming for 2 wks (at least) while I’ve had this cold. Water up the nose just sounded painful with my already plugged sinuses, and indeed, it hurt a bit and was not fun having an even drippier nose afterward. But, it did feel good on my back and muscles, and the flip turns in the deep end feel super good. I felt like I was really getting good lengthening of my arms and keeping a nice high elbow. So much to remember when swimming - I long for it to just feel natural and easy unless I’m purposefully pushing my body hard. Gotta swim a lot more miles though before I can expect it to feel anywhere near as natural as running.

LC Park Horse Side Short Loop
2.5 mile trail run/walk with lots of climbing over/under around downed trees. I felt strong and fast on the last half. Jdog got pretty excted about the fluffiest, fattest porcupine I’ve ever seen, but thankfully let him waddle off while I was hollering “Leave it!” I so did not want to have to pull quills like my dad used to do with his not-so-smart hunting dogs. The giant rhodie bush in front of the ranger’s log cabin is all in bloom with hot pink flowers.

Search for new trail
Tried out a couple different spots out on Cooks Hill Rd today. The first one dead-ended in a tree farm, so I hopped back in my rig and drove up the road a mile. Found a powerline road so i could finish out my run. Uninspiring, but got the run in for me and the dog. Very steep roads/trails so ran down, walked up 3 long ones
