Lift, Hoop and Bike with Kids
It was a warm, sunny day and I was trying to get my son pumped up to come play outside instead of veg in fron of a screen, so I laid down on one of the thermarests in the office, then got him to lay across my feet like I used to when he was little and gave him and my daughter “airplane rides”, basically reverse squats. Then I tried it with them trying to lay across my feet from the side, so they had to be planks. Then we tried it with them planking and me bench pressing them. Sofie weighs about 55 lb and Jake is somewhere around 70 lb, but a lot taller. The kids loved it, and I definitely was maxed out on reps (did abou t4 sets of 10 on squats, 3 x10 bench) . As I’m typing this 5 hours later, I can feel the burn in my quads and glutes. Gonna be sore tomorrow, but hopefully in a good, hard work way. Once the kiddos were amped up, we headed out to the garage and hula hooped for 15 min or so. Then we took off on our bikes for 20-30 min of riding. I started pretending to be a fighter jet and shoot at them with my pinkies and elbows, sound effects included, and that really got them going. It was fun to ride in the empty clover leaf cul-de-sac and basically play chase with them - finally got some faster riding in and I geared my hubby’s mtn bike up high so I was working a bit riding in those relatively small circles and stop-starting a lot to keep from crashing into Sof. First time I’ve seen my boy really enjoy a bike ride in years :-) Sof had me out there another 30 min shooting hoops, but she was wanting a lot of coaching today (I think she’s been playing ball on the playground at school) on how to do a “cross over” which was pretty cool. She got so she could pretty much shoot a layin, which she couldn’t do during city league bball season, and her ball handling is 10x better now too. Fun to watch her skills improve and see her really like basketball. Hoop dreams, live on

walk & play basketball with Sofie
Walked maybe a mile while Sof rode her bike, then played basketball and 2 square in the driveway with her. Loosened up my sore bod and got some fresh air and sun.

Wii tennis, golf, boxing
My shoulders and arms are so sore from playing actual full-court basketball last night that playing Wii with my kiddos this morning hurt! Fun though excpet for accidentally whacking my poor daughter in the head with the remote :-( Poor baby girl! She recovered quickly though and knocked me out boxing 6 times until I begged to play another game

Open Swim with kiddos and hubby
Swam a few easy laps, some with a kid on my back. Tossed kids and a ball around and generally had fun! Very cool that hubby has started swim lessons and is already more comfortable in the water.

Occupational Therapy in the Pool
The calorie count for flexibility looked about right for what I might burn off while I hop in squatting and kneel walk around the kiddie pool to play with one of my sweet little toddlers. Did 20 dips and 20 pushups on edge of pool while I was waiting.

Wii Fit Strength and Balance
i feel kinda bummed out abot the wt I’ve gained that my fit test pointed out. My core strength is better and I had fun on balance games. The kids loved helping me by yelling out what to do, Hula Hooping and balance balls is fun! I think I’ll actually be sore tomorrow from working thru the unfamiliar exercises.

Hill walk with Sof and Jdog
After being home for a couple days with Sof, this easy walk around the little water treatment plant hill loop was wonderful. Took her to playground afterward and my black lab showed us that he will happily go across bouncy suspension bridges, all around the climbing toy and down a metal slide to come to us :-) He could be one of those cool obstacle course dogs if we wanted him to be. I think we’ll sttle for knowing he’s just the best dog ever :0)

Cycle - 1 hours - 09/22/2009
Family bike ride on newly paved rails to trails that heads out toward Adna. Perfect with kids. I set my bike to spin on the way back so I would feel like I was getting a little exercise. Maddeningly slow with Sofie, but so good to get both kids outside to ride with mom and dad along - good family time and I think they had fun.
